We are using Hearts on Fire as our comparison for this loose diamond. One dealer we surveyed has a diamond selling for $5940.00 which weighs .75ct and the same color and clarity, J VS-1. These “J” color diamonds can be surprisingly nice and affordable. Hearts on Fire diamonds are priced universally nationwide. The Hearts on Fire comes with an AGS lab report, but the cutting standards are the same as Passion Fire. We don’t tie ourselves to one specific lab for grading color and clarity, so we are able to source our diamonds more competitively from many different cutters, and pass the savings on to you. We use technology to accurately measure the cutting parameters, in the same way the AGS lab uses technology, to evaluate cut.
We rely on any of the top three labs, AGS, GIA, and EGL-USA for color and clarity grades. When labs express an opinion of color or clarity grading, it is still an opinion. We have found that the GIA will tend to grade a diamond tougher on clarity while the AGS lab will be tougher on color, though this is our opinion of their grading. The EGL-USA has at times come in one grade higher in color or clarity from GIA, but generally are pretty close. We double check the grading on the EGL’s because their lab is not always as consistent in our opinion. The EGL graded diamonds sell for a greater discount than the GIA graded diamonds, so as long as the EGL report is accurate, they can be a better “deal.” We make sure the EGL’s are accurate.
Blue Nile had only one diamond listed on their site, # LD0 1539896, as a “signature ideal” for $2288.00, but it was an “I, SI-1″ and we could not find any in the J color or VS-1. Their Signature Ideal standards are much broader for both proportion and symmetry standards and do not always come with a perfect Hearts and Arrows patterns. For $2750.00, our diamond will face up much nicer than the Blue Nile, and will be as brilliant as the Hearts on Fire, but at half the price. We realize that this is a significant difference in price; Hearts on Fire has taken a traditional distribution approach in selling loose diamonds through bricks and mortar authorized retailers. Our mission at Passion Fire Diamonds is to make these perfectly cut diamonds available at prices everyone can afford. We are pricing them as closely to the Blue Nile diamonds as we can.
